Google rating calculator

Find out how many 5-star reviews you need to raise your Google rating. Enter your current rating, your number of reviews and the rating you want.

You need about 64 new 5-star reviews to reach 4.5.

For comparison, one new 1-star review would move your rating from 4.10 to 4.06.

This is an estimate. Google shows your rating rounded to one decimal, so your exact average may be slightly higher or lower than the number you see.

How the calculation works

Your Google rating is the average of every star rating you have received. To reach a target rating, the new reviews have to pull the average up. The formula is: reviews needed = current reviews × (target − current rating) ÷ (5 − target).

For example, a restaurant with 80 reviews and a 4.1 rating needs 80 × 0.4 ÷ 0.5 = 64 new 5-star reviews to reach 4.5. The more reviews you already have, the more new ones it takes to move the number.

How to get those reviews

Most restaurants have far more happy guests than reviews, because satisfied customers rarely think to leave one. Ask every guest for an honest review while they are still at the table, and give them a QR code that opens your Google review page directly. Common questions

Google ratings, answered.

How is a Google rating calculated?

Your Google rating is the average of all the star ratings on your Business Profile, shown to one decimal place. Every review counts equally toward that average, so a business with many reviews moves more slowly than one with only a few.

How many 5-star reviews do I need to raise my Google rating?

Multiply your review count by the gap between your target and current rating, then divide by the gap between 5 and your target. For example, 80 reviews at 4.1 need 64 new 5-star reviews to reach 4.5. The calculator on this page does this for you.

Can I remove bad reviews to improve my rating?

Only reviews that break Google's policies, such as fake reviews or harassment, can be flagged for removal. Genuine negative reviews stay. The reliable way to raise your rating is to get more honest reviews from your many happy customers.

Is it allowed to ask customers for 5-star reviews?

No. Google's policy does not allow asking for a specific rating, paying for positive reviews, or only asking happy customers. Ask every guest for an honest review and make it easy to leave one.
